The Elizabeth Harris Gallery is pleased to present to a T an exhibition of new sculpture by Steve Currie.  This will be his eighth solo exhibition with the gallery.

In a statement about this current body of work Currie writes:

In making these recent sculptures, I found myself immersed in a process defined by the quiet passage of time and gradual growth. The results were objects that reside somewhere between body and spirit. While my work may not explicitly represent any figure, it speaks to the tangible essence of a corporeal existence in its own subtle way. And while it is clearly fabricated, I believe the sculpture possesses a power beyond its physical form.

This group of sculpture is somewhat of an about face for me, having spent the last many years making relatively weightless, transparent, spring-like sculpture. Despite this shift, both old and new work share a common thread. They are both products of a repetitive process that culminate in a tangible record of time and a record of decisions made. Additionally, they both evolved through the use of repeated circles. In essence, both bodies of work strive to render abstract concepts tangible through time and labor, capturing countless minute decisions and physical actions. They embody a humble acknowledgment of the passage of time and the gradual accumulation of moments, while recognizing the beauty found in the quiet dedication of balancing the corporeal and the metaphysical.

The gallery is located at 529 West 20th Street, 6th floor and is open Tuesday to Saturday 12 – 6 pm.   An illustrated catalog accompanies the exhibition.
